Bill Walter III was born and raised in the sun-soaked shores of Daytona Beach, Florida, where his love for the ocean and dedication to others grew from an early age. As a teenager, Bill embraced the responsibility of keeping beachgoers safe, serving as a lifeguard and embodying the spirit of protecting and loving others that would define his life.
A man of many talents, Bill's intelligence and quick wit made him a joy to be around. His ability to make others laugh was matched only by his passion for music, which he expressed through singing and playing the guitar. Bill's zest for life extended to his love of outdoor activities, particularly water skiing, showcasing his adventurous spirit and connection to nature.
Bill's journey led him from the beaches of Florida to the mountains of Colorado, where he continued to touch lives. He was a devoted husband and a fun-loving father of two small children, always putting his family at the center of his world.
In January 1995, at the age of 32, Bill was diagnosed with stage 5 melanoma. Throughout his battle with cancer, Bill's faith in Jesus Christ grew stronger, becoming a cornerstone of his life. His unwavering relationship with Christ provided him with strength and peace, particularly during the challenging later years of his life. Despite facing several hospitalizations, surgeries, and experimental treatments, he maintained an inspiring positive attitude that touched all who knew him.
Tragically, on November 18, 1998, Bill lost his battle with melanoma at the young age of 36, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, courage, and faith. His strong Christian beliefs not only sustained him during his illness but also left a lasting impact on his family and friends.
Bill's noble spirit and faith continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him and those who are now dedicated to helping melanoma patients find the best possible treatments. In his memory, friends and family founded the Bill Walter III Melanoma Research Fund. This 501(c) organization is committed to raising awareness about the dangers of sun exposure and supporting cutting-edge melanoma research.
Through this fund, Bill's passion for life, his commitment to helping others, and his strong faith endure. We strive to honor his memory by working tirelessly towards better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for melanoma. Join us in celebrating Bill's life by supporting this vital cause and helping to protect others from the disease that took him from us too soon.
Together, we can make a difference in the fight against melanoma, ensuring that Bill's bright light and steadfast faith continue to shine and guide us toward a future where no one has to face this devastating diagnosis alone.
